About
Formed in 2011 in Providence, Rhode Island, Downtown Boys are a political punk rock unit known for their aggressive, saxophone-laced sound and bilingual lyrics. The band rose to prominence through high-energy live performances and a commitment to radical social justice, challenging systemic issues like racism, capitalism, and queerphobia through their music and advocacy work.
After gaining critical acclaim with early releases on Don Giovanni and Sister Polygon, the group signed to Sub Pop for their third LP, Cost of Living. Their work extends beyond the stage, including the launch of the online magazine Spark Mag and successful efforts to pressure major festivals like SXSW to reform artist contracts regarding immigration enforcement.
